Click each step to see the action, click the picture or use the arrow keys

  • 1. From the home screen, tap Messages
  • 2. Enter the first few letters of the name of the contact you wish to send the message to and then tap their number in the displayed list
  • 3. To send the message to a number that is not in your contacts, tap 123
  • 4. Enter the number
  • 5. Tap the text entry field
  • 6. Enter the text of your message and then tap Send
  • 7. By default, if you are sending a message to a contact with an iOS device, the message will be sent as an iMessage. An iMessage uses Wi-Fi or cellular data to send the message. If you would like to disable iMessage, from the home screen, tap Settings
  • 8. Scroll down and tap Messages
  • 9. Tap the status switch beside iMessage
  • 10. If iMessage is turned on, the contact’s name, the text bubbles and the Send text will be in blue
  • 11. If iMessage is turned off, the contact’s name, the text bubbles and the Send text will be in green
